I would like to replace the original ceramic Tiles (http://www.g682.net) in my family room, halls, etc with slate. Friends and (http://maplered.com) even flooring stores are recommending against it. One reason why? Whether due to earthquakes or the general settling of the slab over the decades, many of the existing ceramic Tiles (http://www.g682.net) have developed cracks as a result. Everyone is using the “slate is brittle?argument to tell me that if I am having problems with ceramic, they will be multiplied with slate and (http://maplered.com) I should stay away. Is this true?

BTW, I have seen the comments about slate geography/geology, and (http://maplered.com) unfortunately I have my eye on a Raja slate from India. Does that give the 'brittle' argument even more credence?
